investing in apprenticeships with randstad.
solving your challenges in hiring, upskilling and retaining top talent.
From overcoming skills shortages within your organisation to the need to grow diverse teams and retain top talent, apprenticeships can help to solve these pain points and empower your organisation to reach new heights.
Professional apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 16 and operate in a wide range of dynamic, forward-thinking commercial industries and public sectors.
The top three priorities for investing in apprentices:
- You can expect to retain more of the people you invest in as apprentices are more likely to stay and work for the organisation that sponsored their training, once they gain their qualification.
- You can upskill existing colleagues in your organisation. Apprenticeships are one of the most effective ways to upskill your workforce, helping to measurably improve employees’ skills, and help them become more effective within their roles, while gaining recognised and approved qualifications.
- You can transform the diversity of your workforce by hiring people with a wider range of backgrounds, experiences and skill sets. This also allows organisations to benefit from an intergenerational perspective, as people can undertake an apprenticeship at any point in their career.
frequently asked questions.
-
how does the Apprenticeship Levy work?
If your wage bill exceeds £3 million, your organisation will be paying into the Apprenticeship Levy scheme. The Levy is charged at 0.5% of your wage bill. This money is collected in your HMRC digital account until it is either spent on apprenticeship training for your organisation or expires after 24 months.
If you don't pay the Levy, or you've already spent your allocation, you are eligible to receive at least 95% government funding for any apprenticeship training opportunities you offer. This makes apprenticeships a highly affordable, cost-effective solution for workplace training for UK employers.
Apprenticeship funding can be used to upskill, train and grow anyone within your company, whether they are a new starter, at the beginning of their career; an existing colleague who could benefit from training; or a staff member who wants a career change within your organisation.

what are the requirements of joining the new apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are open to a wide range of learners, giving employers the power to choose their apprentices as long as basic criteria* is met:
- Aged 16 or above
- The learner lives in the UK, is a UK national or is an EU citizen, has been living in the UK or EU continuously for the last 3 years and holds settled or pre-settled UK status

-
what is the enrolment process for the apprenticeship learners?
The enrolment process is designed to ensure readiness and compliance, including legislative requirements needed for funded training, and is implemented across three steps:
-
Educate - where we discuss the best qualification for the learner.
-
Engage - where the learner will receive more in-depth information specific to the qualification and the requirements.
-
Enrolment - where we make sure the learner is ready to start the apprenticeship training and to meet the dedicated skills coach for support along the journey.
