International Youth Day is about raising awareness and addressing the cultural, societal and legal issues faced by young people in society today. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, when 1 in 7 young people were unemployed and while the average young person has less than £500 in savings, young people in the UK have shown remarkable determination and resilience. All of this, despite the fact that two-thirds of the workers who lost their jobs were under the age of 25.
This is why, on International Youth Day, we are proud to announce that we have partnered with the Financial Inclusion Alliance (FIA) to help address some of the key challenges that young people are facing in today’s world.
who are the FIA
The FIA is a not-for-profit community interest organisation, specialising in bringing local and global organisations, across multiple sectors, together to address complex and cross-cutting issues which impact business and society.
Given that so many young people have emerged on the other side of the pandemic with poor mental health, heightened anxiety around finding a job, and concern of their overall financial future; there is a pressing need to help our future workforce to feel confident and comfortable towards making positive steps for their careers. Our partnership with the FIA will enable us to understand some of these challenges better, so that we can play our part in helping young people progress towards the working world.
what we will do
Working in partnership with the FIA, Randstad will be working with its own clients and members of the wider Alliance to explore issues ranging from the development of skills for the new economy, to careers, rewards, and employment practices. We’ll be focussing on how these and other factors currently impact young people’s inclusion and wellbeing and how they may need to evolve in a world altered by the pandemic.
This work will lead on to a series of co-led Innovation Labs, which help us to identify what key interventions are needed within organisations to help address some of the barriers that young people face.
leading from the front
We’re honoured to be part of this revolution in the world of work and we are committed to investing and providing career opportunities for young people across the globe. Our UK business is leading from the front and offering trainee roles to individuals who are looking for a meaningful career.
