Most industries require candidates to submit a cover letter along with their CV, and telesales is no different. There are cover letter examples all over the internet but why do you need one? The idea behind writing cover letters is to provide the recruiter with a quick, yet comprehensive overview of the applicant, and an introduction to their CV’s content. Read below to find out what information you need to include to create an impressive cover letter that will stand out from the pile.

How to write a telesales cover letter.

When writing a cover letter, it may be useful to think of the letter as a highlights package for their CV. The first step to take when writing it is to look through the CV and pick out the most noteworthy pieces of information regarding either your career or education. If you are writing a cover letter for a telesales executive role - any previous experience, awards, won or sales targets met should be included in the body of the letter. Using a word processor to type will ensure it looks professional and there are no spelling errors or issues with illegible handwriting.

How to format a cover letter properly.

The letter should be formally formatted, and well-structured to make a good impression. At the top right, candidates should include their address and contact details, with the date below. The recipient’s address should then be in the top left corner of the page, below the date. If the candidate knows the intended recipient’s name, this should be included. In this case, the salutation will be ‘yours sincerely.’ If the recipient’s name is unknown, ‘dear sir/madam’ will usually be fine, and the letter should be ended with ‘yours faithfully.’ Don’t forget to sign it.

What should you include in a cover letter?

Candidates should begin by explaining :

what the position they are applying for is

where it was advertised

why the job offer is of their interest

why they would be a good choice for the role

The letter should then outline relevant experience, achievements and qualifications. Applicants are usually advised to conclude by explaining how the candidate believes they will make a positive impact on the business, a request for an interview, and the provision of any necessary contact instructions.

‘I look forward to hearing from you’ is always a good final sentence. The cover letter does not need to be too long – usually, about half a side - and should certainly be less than a page in length.

How to make yourself stand out.

Employers receive a high number of applications for telesales jobs, so standing out can be a challenge. Candidates should aim to let their enthusiasm and passion for the job shine through in their writing while keeping things formal and professional. Aim to emphasise any telesales experience or occasions where skills such as verbal communication and friendliness have been an assistance.

Try and avoid clichés and make the letter personal. No one wants their cover letter to catch the eye the wrong reasons, so take time to ensure it is appropriately formatted, concise and mistake-free.

Cover letters should be tailored to each position applied for, so don’t feel tempted to cut corners and use a generic one to save time when applying for different roles.
