Our recent autumn 2023 survey spoke to tutors who support pupils with 1:1 or small group subject specific sessions across the UK. Many pupils have been out of education for prolonged periods, have special educational needs or need support with their mental health.
This survey focused on 3 main areas: understanding to what extent tutors felt supported by Randstad, how tuition is positively impacting pupils and their families and how tuition is supporting pupil progress.

how we support tutors
Many of the tutors we surveyed work with pupils who have not been in education for a long period of time, and have significant gaps in learning or barriers to engagement. Tutors work face to face with pupils in schools, pupils homes or special settings. Ensuring tutors are equipped with the right information from the very start about a pupil’s unique situation and the desired outcomes of tuition are essential to ensure positive outcomes and pupil progress.
82% of tutors surveyed were happy with the service provided by Randstad before and during tuition sessions with 81% of tutors agreeing communication from Randstad was good.
"Everything seems to work well in general, the communication is good, and I always know where I am up to with my current assignments.”
Over three quarters (79%) of tutors surveyed responded that any issues are resolved quickly, with 93% confirming they would be happy to continue working with Randstad again.

making an impact
Building confidence, removing barriers to engagement and adapting teaching to suit individual pupils’ needs is fundamental to delivering impactful tuition. We track pupils’ academic achievements against learning objectives. 79% of our tutors surveyed agreed or strongly agreed that tuition was supporting pupils to make expected progress in learning.
"I have built a great rapport with my students, and I'm really impressed by how much progress they've made!”
In addition, we wanted to find out how tuition impacts the whole pupil. More than four fifths (88%) of tutors felt tuition had boosted pupil confidence.
a parent’s view
As a parent seeing your child happy and progressing takes some of the worry and stress out of family life. We spoke to parents of pupils we support to understand what impact tuition was making.
93% of parents say their child is engaged and tuition supports their learning.
"The tutor has communicated well with me on everything. She has been amazing with my son in so many ways. She is fantastic"
Nearly all parents (96%) were happy with the quality of tuition.
"The positive impact the teaching has had on my pupil and her family has been immense... She has started to follow instructions and is generally a much happier and patient little girl.”
