Job Summary:
The Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) in Doncaster plays a crucial role in assessing and managing individuals with mental health needs, ensuring their safety and well-being while upholding legal and ethical standards. The AMHP is responsible for coordinating mental health assessments, making informed decisions about the necessity of compulsory detention under the Mental Health Act, and liaising with other health and social care professionals to provide comprehensive support.
Key Responsibilities:
Mental Health Act Assessments:

- Conduct thorough assessments of individuals referred under the Mental Health Act (MHA) 1983.
- Determine the necessity of compulsory admission to a hospital or other settings for treatment.
- Coordinate with medical professionals, including doctors and psychiatrists, during the assessment process.
Decision-Making and Legal Responsibilities:
- Make informed decisions regarding the application of the Mental Health Act, ensuring all legal criteria are met.
- Complete and manage all required legal documentation accurately and promptly.
- Ensure the rights of individuals are upheld throughout the assessment and treatment process.
Liaison and Coordination:
- Work closely with mental health services, social workers, healthcare providers, and other relevant agencies.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between all parties involved in the care of the individual.
- Act as a point of contact for families and carers, providing information and support as needed.
Crisis Intervention and Support:
- Provide immediate support and intervention in mental health crises, ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals.
- Develop and implement crisis management plans in collaboration with other professionals.
- Offer guidance and support to individuals, families, and carers during times of crisis.
Case Management:
- Manage a caseload of individuals requiring mental health services, ensuring timely and effective interventions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, documenting all assessments, decisions, and actions taken.
- Review and monitor care plans, adjusting as necessary to meet the evolving needs of individuals.
Training and Development:
- Stay informed about changes in mental health legislation, policies, and best practices.
- Participate in regular training and professional development opportunities.
- Provide training and support to other professionals on the application of the Mental Health Act and related matters.
Advocacy:
- Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with mental health conditions.
- Promote awareness and understanding of mental health issues within the community and among professionals.
This role is Monday - Friday working 4 days over the week which can be negotiable, however there is an option for a 5 day week if you would prefer. Working hours are 8am-6pm which is also negotiable.
Rate is £40ph
You must be a fully qualified AMPH with substantial experience within a similar team.
