Middlesbrough Borough Council's Adult Social Care is seeking a compassionate and experienced Social Worker to join our dedicated Best Interest Assessment Team. We are committed to providing high-quality support and protection to individuals who lack the capacity to make decisions for themselves, ensuring their needs and wishes are at the forefront of all decisions.
Your Role:
As a Best Interest Assessor, you will play a vital role in upholding the rights of vulnerable adults.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting Assessments: Thoroughly assessing the needs and wishes of individuals who lack capacity, gathering information through interviews, observations, and reviewing relevant documents.
- Determining Capacity: Assessing an individual's ability to understand information, make decisions, and communicate their preferences.
- Exploring Options: Exploring different options and solutions that meet the individual's needs and wishes, considering their values and preferences.
- Formulating Recommendations: Making recommendations based on your assessment findings, outlining the best course of action for the individual's well-being and safety.
- Facilitating Decision-Making: Communicating your assessment and recommendations clearly to the individual, their family, and other professionals, promoting open dialogue and ensuring everyone's views are heard.
- Supporting Guardianship and Deputyship: Working with individuals, their families, and legal professionals to establish appropriate legal frameworks, such as Guardianship or Deputyship, when necessary.
- Maintaining Case Records: Keeping detailed and accurate records of your assessments, recommendations, and actions, ensuring clear and concise documentation of the individual's journey.
Key Requirements:
- Social Work Qualification: You must be a qualified Social Worker.
- Social Care England Registration: Essential for this role.
- Updated DBS: Essential for working with vulnerable individuals.
- Experience in Working with Vulnerable Adults: Demonstrated experience working with individuals who lack capacity, particularly those with mental health conditions, learning disabilities, or dementia.
- Excellent Assessment and Communication Skills: Proven ability to conduct comprehensive assessments, communicate effectively with individuals and families, and advocate for their needs.
- Strong Understanding of Legislation: A comprehensive understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and relevant safeguarding legislation.
- Commitment to Safeguarding Individuals: Passion for protecting individuals and ensuring their rights and well-being are paramount.
