Are you a highly experienced and skilled social worker with a proven track record in conducting best interest assessments? We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to join our team in Leicestershire as a Best Interest Assessor (BIA).
Leicester City Council Adult Social Care are seeking a Best Interest Assessor to join the DoLS Team for 3-6 months. The role will include undertaking both Mental Capacity and best interest assessments and co-ordinating the assessment process under the Mental Capacity Act 2005. This will include undertaking DoLS reviews and being placed on the BIA Duty rota 1 day per week, in which you will take telephone calls and respond to email enquiries.
You'll provide expert advice to ensure an effective and consistent multi-agency approach to DoLS, including provision of training opportunities and support for Best Interest Assessor candidates.
The role is office based within the city, although it is largely home working. The only requirements to come to an office is for meetings and or if you are experiencing IT connectivity issues, which would prevent you from undertaking the work. The candidate would be required to drive in order to complete visits for the purpose of assessment throughout Leicester and Leicestershire. Mileage can only be claimed from the office base to the destination of assessment.
What you'll need
Holding a post qualified award as a best interest assessor, you'll have comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and codes of practice and the interface between the Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act, along with local and national issues in health and social care. You'll have been practising as a qualified best interest assessor within the past 2 years and undertaken required mandatory annual refresher training. In addition, you'll hold a degree in Social Work, Occupational Therapy or similar e.g. CQSW, DipSW, Nursing, and have current registration with the relevant body for this.
Requirements:
- Registered with Social Care England.
- Minimum 3 years' post-qualification experience as a qualified social worker. Significant experience conducting best interest assessments is essential.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and relevant legislation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
