An exciting opportunity has recently been raised for a Development Engineer for a leading manufacturer of off highway diesel engines in Peterborough. The position is currently paying £26.54 PAYE and £35 Umbrella. (If these rates don't match your expectations please still apply so we can discuss your expectations) The current working hours are 37 hours a week. Monday to Thursday 8:30-16:45 and Friday 8:15-16:15. There is flexible working (hybrid) available with the requirement of being on site for 2 days minimum.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
- Plan and deliver Aftertreatment system/component development projects to time, cost and quality goals.
- Assess technical risk through FMEA; define and coordinate simulation and validation activities (DVP&R).
- Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques (8D); ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.
- Planning and improving testing procedures and operations to make the test more reliable, efficient and cost effective.
- Monitoring results, machine and process capabilities and performance reliability
- Communicate project status and key issues to peers, stakeholders and management.
- Collaborate with suppliers to develop specifications and deliver quality solutions through APQP.
- Write and review technical information and technical reports to support production design release.
- Collaborate with global teams to implement engineering solutions at worldwide facilities.
- Reflect on lessons learnt, using Lean methodology to identify improvement opportunities.
Skills and Experience:
Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
- Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent knowledge/experience).
- 6-8 years of engineering or relevant experience.
- Good understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, engine components and/or systems and component development.
- Good understanding of manufacturing principles and processes.
- Self-motivated and able to manage and deliver complex projects to meet commitments.
- Effective communication skills and teamwork with both internal teams and external suppliers.
- Previous knowledge and experience of diesel engine development and new product introduction. Basic awareness of aftertreatment system function.
- Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Adheres to standard troubleshooting procedures to ensure effectiveness of resolution
- Experience of leading and participating in APQP, FMEA and DVP&R.
- Strong analytical skills, and experience of developing components and systems through simulation, rig testing and complete system testing.
