Financial Controller collaborates with the executive team, project managers, and other stakeholders
to optimise financial performance and mitigate risks.
Salary: up to £80,000 based on experience
Responsibilities:
Financial Planning and Analysis:
- Accounting and Financial Reporting:
- Oversee all accounting activities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Manage the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Maintain adherence to accounting policies, standards, and regulations.
- Prepare and present financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and
- cash flow statements.
- Coordinate annual accounts preparation and liaise with external auditors.
- Develop and implement financial planning and budgeting processes.
- Prepare and analyse management accounts, reports, and forecasts.
- Monitor key financial metrics and provide analysis and recommendations.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and optimise resource allocation.
- Conduct financial risk assessments and develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Financial Controls and Compliance:
- Establish and maintain robust financial controls and internal audit procedures.
- Monitor/enforce compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and company policies.
- Implement and improve financial systems, processes, and procedures.
- Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and ensure timely implementation.
- Conduct periodic internal reviews to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.
- Manage CIS processes and reporting
- Cash Flow Management:
- Develop and monitor cash flow projections and budgets.
- Preparation of a rolling 13 week forecast
- Optimise working capital management and liquidity.
- Coordinate with project managers to track and analyse project costs and revenue.
- Manage banking relationships and credit facilities.
- Implement effective collections and payment processes.
- Financial Strategy and Decision Support:
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Evaluate investment opportunities and assess their financial viability.
- Conduct financial due diligence for potential acquisitions or partnerships.
- Collaborate with project managers to assess project profitability and performance.
- Prepare financial models and scenarios to support business planning.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead and mentor the finance team, providing guidance and support.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration within the finance team and
- across departments.
Qualifications:
- Educated to Bachelor degree level
- Professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACA or CIMA)
- Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role in the construction industry.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations (e.g., GAAP).
- Strong financial analysis and financial modelling skills.
- Proficiency in financial management software and ERP systems.
- Excellent understanding of project accounting and cost control.
- Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of construction industry practices, contracts, and regulations is a plus.
