PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:

• Technical Expertise: Carry out inspections, servicing, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of vehicles and plant, both scheduled and unscheduled. Maintain all Plant and Machinery to set specifications.
• Customer Focus: Provide excellent service to all customers, internal and external, ensuring their safety and welfare while on site.
• Record Keeping: Complete accurate records of work undertaken on vehicles and plant, both manually and electronically.
• Road Testing and Breakdown Support: Undertake necessary road testing and respond to breakdowns.
• MOT Certification and Testing: Carry out MOTs on both light and heavy commercial vehicles to VOSA standard.
• Shift and Standby Responsibilities: Participate in standby rotas and shift systems as required.
• Training and Supervision: Provide supervision for Workshop Assistants, Apprentices, and Work Experience Placements.
• Professional Development: Undertake training to maintain and enhance professional skills.
• Fleet Management Support: Assist Fleet Services with fleet management, ensuring compliance with regulations.
• Vehicle Preparation: Prepare vehicles for annual MOT/plating tests.
• Diagnosis and Repair: Use specialist equipment to diagnose and repair vehicle faults, including electrical systems.
• Electric Vehicle Expertise: Adapt to new procedures and develop skills for electric vehicle maintenance.
• Electrical Installation: Undertake electrical installation of accessories and ancillary equipment.
• Key Management: Be responsible for the safekeeping of vehicle keys.
• Mentoring and Training: Assist in the training and mentoring of apprentices and other colleagues.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

• Relevant qualifications and experience as an HG Vehicle Technician.
• A valid MOT test certificate.
• Proven ability to carry out inspections, servicing, maintenance, and repairs to a high standard.
• Experience working with specialist and alternate fueled vehicles.
• Excellent knowledge of vehicle diagnostics and repair techniques.
• Strong understanding of safety procedures and regulations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

• Experience with electric vehicle maintenance and repair.
• Experience with electrical installation and testing of automotive systems.
• Experience in a public sector environment.
