We are looking for an individual to provide Practical Support to a student with a Visual Impairment studying at Leeds Trinity University on a SCITT Course. You will be required to support a blind student in a music based classroom, whilst on 2 placements at Secondary Schools in Beeston and Menston. You will also be required to provide support to the student whilst they are on campus (2 days per week) during their Lectures and Seminars.
Student Details:
The student will be studying at Leeds Trinity University and joining the PGCE Secondary Music course. The student requires a Practical Supporter to assist them in the Classroom whilst on Placements, whilst studying on Campus.
Key Duties:
... - Due to the student being blind, you will support them with the visual aspect of their course.
- Supporting with setting up the Classroom and the students desk if required / getting things organised.
- Helping operate any white boards/technology based on the students instructions.
- Observing the Classroom and reporting any behavioural situations / instances back to the student so they can effectively manage the Classroom.
- Safeguarding - looking out for any signs of neglect and reporting them back to the student to effectively escalate and manage if required.
- Supporting the student in becoming more independent and confident whilst in the Classroom whilst on their Placement.
Placements & Working Hours:
The student will be on 2 different Placements throughout the course (from 01/09/2024 - 31/07/2025 approximately). The first Placement will:
- Take place in a Specialist Performing Arts Secondary School based in Beeston.
- Approximately between 8am-8:30am - 4:00pm-4:30pm (with 1 hour unpaid lunch).
- This will take place from September 2024 - April 2025 (before Easter break).
- Will most likely be in the school on Placement each week on Wednesdays, Thursday and Fridays.
- Support at Leeds Trinity University Campus (Horsforth) may be required on Mondays and Tuesdays, however can be discussed at Interview.
The second Placement will:
- Take place at a Secondary School based in Menston.
- Approximately between 8am-8:30am - 4:00pm-4:30pm (with 1 hour unpaid lunch).
- This placement will take place from April 2024 (with an extended transition week prior to Easter) - July 2025.
- The student will require support at both the Horsforth Campus and at the School in Meston (specific days tbc).
Pay & Benefits:
- £12.00 per hour.
- Holiday Pay, Pension Scheme, CPD and a dedicated Consultant.
Qualifications:
- Experience supporting disabled individuals.
- Experience supporting students on a one-to-one basis.
- Disability support training (provided by Randstad)
- Desirable: experience of working in a school environment previously (either Primary or Secondary).
- An Enhanced DBS Check will be required (which Randstad will process).
