As a pharmacist, you ensure the supply of medicine to hospitals is within the law. You ensure patients receive quality medicine prescribed by the doctor. You also explain instructions, dosages and allergic reactions to drugs to patients. The role requires extensive knowledge of medications and their uses to advise health professionals on the effective use of drugs and safe storage of medication.

To become a pharmacist, you require a master of pharmacy degree approved by the General Pharmaceutical Council. After the degree, you must complete an additional pharmacist foundation training scheme that takes a year. When you don’t have a degree qualification to pursue a master’s, start with a foundation degree and register with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
