Social Worker - Emergency Duty Team (EDT), Tameside Council
Randstad is currently recruiting for an experienced Children's Social Worker to join the Emergency Duty Team at Tameside Council. This is a full-time locum opportunity offering up to £39 per hour, ideal for professionals who thrive in fast-paced, decision-critical environments and are committed to safeguarding children outside of regular working hours.
About the Role
The Emergency Duty Team provides urgent out-of-hours social work support to children and families in crisis. As part of this team, you will respond to emergency safeguarding concerns, offering timely intervention to ensure the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable children during evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond swiftly and effectively to urgent child protection referrals and crises outside of core working hours.
- Conduct initial risk assessments and take immediate safeguarding action where necessary.
- Provide advice and support to partner agencies, carers, and families during emergency situations.
- Make decisions in high-pressure situations, often without direct supervision.
- Maintain accurate and concise case records of emergency interventions and referrals for follow-up by daytime teams.
- Work collaboratively with police, health services, and other emergency responders.
Requirements
- Social Work England registration.
- Social Work Degree or equivalent qualification.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
- Substantial experience in children's social work, preferably within safeguarding, MASH, or out-of-hours services.
- Ability to work independently and manage risk-based decision-making in urgent situations.
