Recycling Depot Operative (Temporary)
Environmental Depot - Gofer Bulking Station - Abergele - LL22 9SE
Conwy Council is looking for a motivated and reliable Recycling Depot Operative to join our team on a temporary basis. This is a great opportunity to contribute to a vital service, gain valuable experience, and learn new skills.
What You'll Do:
- Unloading and Sorting: Assist drivers with unloading recycling vehicles, including traffic management, reversing assistance, and banksman duties. You'll also be responsible for quality inspection and pre-sorting of recycling materials.
- Operating Machinery: Operate materials separation equipment, balers, and other machinery required for the unloading, sorting, storage, baling, and loading of recycling materials.
- Safety and Maintenance: Carry out daily inspections of plant and machinery, recording and reporting any defects to the Recycling Depot Chargehand. You'll also undertake scheduled maintenance of equipment and machinery.
- Cleanliness and Teamwork: Maintain the Recycling Depot to a high standard of cleanliness, including loading bays, equipment, skips, and the site perimeter. Work as part of the team to carry out tasks assigned by the Senior Waste Management Officer and Recycling Depot Chargehand.
What We're Looking For:
- Essential:
* Basic Literacy Skills
* Experience of manual work
* Understanding of site health & safety issues
- Desirable:
* Experience and understanding of waste management operations
* Machine Operation Competence Certificate in the use of Telehandler or Forklift
What We Offer:
- Competitive hourly rate: £11.59 per hour
- Full-time hours: 37 hours per week (Monday - Friday, 8am - 4pm)
- Temporary role: Starting ASAP, ending 9th February 2025
- Mandatory bank holiday working: Plus up to 3 Saturday Christmas catch-up collections.
