To become a structural engineer, you require a bachelor’s degree in structural, civil or architectural engineering. You can also join the profession with a Higher National Diploma in civil engineering or complete a civil engineering degree apprenticeship for on-the-job training. Some complex projects may require additional certification or chartered engineer (CEng) status. You should also register with the Institution of Structural Engineers (MIStructE).
