We are seeking a dedicated Science Technician to join our vibrant secondary school in Leeds. This is a full-time position, starting ASAP. You will play a vital role in ensuring the safe storage and accessibility of equipment and materials, as well as supporting the teaching staff in delivering engaging and safe science lessons.
Requirements:
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
- Relevant qualifications and experience as a Science Technician or similar role.
- ICT competence and the ability to use basic computer systems for record-keeping and communication.
- GCSE level education, including science subjects.
- Strong knowledge of Health & Safety regulations in a laboratory setting.
Desirable:
- Previous experience working in an educational setting.
- Experience with maintaining and organising laboratory equipment and materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a healthy and safe working environment, contributing to the review and monitoring of health and safety procedures.
- Provide technical advice and support to teaching staff, including trainee teachers, on health and safety matters.
- Ensure the safe disposal of hazardous materials and the safe treatment of used chemicals.
- Organise and maintain science equipment and chemicals, ensuring appropriate stock levels are maintained for lessons.
- Carry out routine maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of equipment, ensuring it meets the required standards.
- Assist in the preparation and setup of practical lessons, working closely with teaching staff to support lesson delivery.
- Support students and staff in practical lessons, including assisting non-specialists.
- Contribute to the design and development of specialist resources and long-term science projects.
- Maintain tidiness and organisation of science labs and classrooms after lessons.
