TANGLIN GIPPSLAND CAMPUS
Tanglin Gippsland is the Australian campus of Tanglin Trust School Singapore, that was purchased in 2023 and will start hosting students in early 2025. The campus is set on a 15-acre site located in the township of Rawson, which sits on the southern edge of the Baw Baw National Park in the state of Victoria.
The campus is designed to cater for groups of up to 80 students and will be operated by approximately 20 staff. The campus will align with Tanglin Singapore's calendar which runs on the Northern Hemisphere school year schedule. It will operate on a modified 7 day a week timetable, offering students mainstream subjects while, at times, utilising the great outdoors and beautiful Victorian Alps as a classroom. This will provide the opportunity to produce exciting schemes of work that bring inquiry and rigor to the fore. The curriculum is experiential in nature, requiring teachers to be brave in combining classwork with the outdoors and bringing the best out in all students because of a deliberately innovative pedagogy.
Due to the nature of the campus and its residential programme, teachers are expected to live on campus to help provide around-the-clock care and supervision of students.
Tanglin Gippsland staff will be members of the Tanglin Trust School community and the School wants all teachers to understand and be part of the Singapore Campus as well. This will require teachers to travel to Singapore to meet and create relationships with staff, students, parents, and members of the broader Tanglin community. This is a wonderful opportunity for teachers to understand more about Tanglin Trust School, the country and city of Singapore and international education.
TANGLIN HIGHLANDS PROGRAMME
While the campus will host students of various ages, the primary focus of the campus is to deliver the five-week Highlands Programme for Tanglin Singapore's Year 9 students. Building on the legacy of Tanglin's Cameron Highlands programme from the 1930's, a new Highlands Programme was envisaged that would stretch and strengthen students physically, emotionally, academically and relationally.
The main focus of the program is to foster three essential attributes:

Confidence: Thrive and flourish
Community: Belong and connect
Since Year 9 is a formative year for adolescent development, this programme will empower students to apply the skills they've acquired and challenge them to cultivate new ones.
POSITION OVERVIEW
TEACHING AND LEARNING
- Teach responsively, getting to know students well as learners and adapting teaching to maximise every student's progress.
- Always be the expert in the space; know the content and be confident enough to stretch and challenge the most able and go beyond the planned curriculum if needed.
- Create a supportive environment for learning, seeking to ensure all students feel valued and heard. Ensure that students feel able to take risks and make mistakes in their learning.
PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT
- Understand the Tanglin Gippsland context and plan for learning to take place in a range of spaces, both indoors and outdoors.
- Use relevant school data (e.g. CEM, prior reports, and Learning Support profiles) to ensure planning is well matched to the students in the learning space.
- Know the Tanglin 3-14 curriculum well and be cognisant of the fact that the Tanglin Gippsland programme forms a key part of Milestone 5.
- Ensure lessons and learning opportunities are always well planned, alongside the flexibility to teach responsively. 10
- Activate hard thinking for students through the judicious use of structuring, explaining, questioning, interacting, and embedding. Know when and how to use each of these strategies.
- Be proactive in teaching and prompting students to work both collaboratively and independently when appropriate.
- Support Tanglin's culture of innovation to offer varied and exciting teaching approaches, in line with the most up to date educational research.
- Plan professional learning in the context of the National Professional Standards for Teachers. Consider relevant research and initiate and engage in professional learning with colleagues to evaluate the effectiveness of learning and teaching.
- Be supportive of and open to the dynamic nature of Tanglin Gippsland, recognising the need to adapt, be flexible and demonstrate initiative.
ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING
- Understand that responsive teaching and formative assessment are the key tenets of assessment at Tanglin. Feedback designed to progress student learning should be the on-going priority.
- Be familiar with the concept of MIGs (Multiple Inadequate Glances) in assessment and ensure these assessment opportunities are in line with Tanglin Singapore department policy.
PASTORAL
- Be a residential member of the community with pastoral responsibility for a small group of students.
- Be a point of communication with parents of students in the tutor group.
- Monitor each student's social, emotional, academic, and physical progress.
- Follow the School's policies and procedures regarding safeguarding and behaviour, utilising core programmes to monitor and communicate each child's progress.
- Undertake campus daily routines and duties and be a visible member of the community.
CO-CURRICULAR AND OUTDOOR PURSUITS
- Develop and lead interesting and engaging cocurricular activities that broaden students' experiences, ensuring follow up reflection and learning are part of the experiential cycle.
- Participate in and where qualified lead students on single or mutli-day hiking, camping and adventure activity programmes that occur weekly during the programme.
- Be familiar with the Tanglin 3-14 assessment framework and the mastery model used at Tanglin Singapore for the assessment of Year 9 student progress.
- Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the DSL or Head of Campus.
- Be responsible and held accountable for continuing compliance with the School's Child Safe and Child Safe Reporting Policy. It is expected that all staff will maintain contemporary knowledge of the Policy and always enact the Policy. All staff have a responsibility to immediately raise any concerns they have about Child Protection to the Head of Campus.
- Participate in and lead general fitness activities.
- Facilitate and de-brief outdoor based learning activities.
RESIDENTIAL SUPPORT
- Assist with supervision of students during the residential part of the programme, including meal times, free time, prep time and bed time.
- Be rostered to 'on call' periods overnight to assist with student needs and supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Current, or an ability to attain a Victorian Institute of Teaching registration.
- Appropriate qualification and demonstrated expertise in relevant subject area(s).
- Experience in boarding or extended residential programmes will be highly regarded.
- Skills, knowledge and qualifications in outdoor settings and in-particular outdoor adventure activities will be highly regarded.
- An understanding of and experience in experiential education
- Proven competence with use of technology in a learning environment and in implementing curriculum.
- Collaborative team member with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
- Demonstrate high levels of confidentiality, trust, credibility and honesty
- Committed to striving for continuous improvement and achieving exceptional outcomes
