We are seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to work one-on-one with a child with autism in a Reception class at a primary school in Leeds. This full-time position starts as soon as possible and will run through February, with the potential for extension.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Provide individualised support for a child with autism, helping them engage with daily classroom activities.
- Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver personalised learning plans.
- Use tailored strategies to help the student with sensory and communication needs, promoting a calm and positive learning experience.
- Monitor the child's progress and adapt your approach to meet their evolving needs.
- Encourage social interactions and help develop essential skills through structured activities and play.
- Assist with transitions between activities and environments, ensuring the child feels secure and supported.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children with autism or other SEN in an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of autism and knowledge of communication and sensory support techniques.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to create a calm, supportive atmosphere.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with staff and engage positively with the child.
- DBS check required (or willingness to complete one).
