We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Freelance Site Engineer for a major Sea Defence scheme in North Wales. This is a critical project designed to protect the coastline, involving complex engineering challenges and the construction of key infrastructure. The successful candidate will have experience working with reinforced concrete (both in-situ and precast), as well as strong expertise in setting out, quality assurance, and site coordination.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a significant engineering project, working within a highly collaborative environment with a focus on safety, quality, and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Setting Out and Surveying:
Accurately set out all works on-site in accordance with design drawings and technical specifications, ensuring precise alignment and measurements for structural works, particularly reinforced concrete structures. Utilize Total Stations, GPS, and other setting-out instruments to guarantee high levels of accuracy in all survey work.
Reinforced Concrete Works (In-situ & Precast):
...
Supervise and manage the execution of reinforced concrete works, including both in-situ pours and precast concrete element installation. Oversee the formwork, reinforcement, and concrete pouring processes, ensuring strict adherence to the project's design and quality standards. Provide technical support for the correct installation of reinforcement, liaising with both site teams and subcontractors to resolve any issues promptly. Ensure all concrete works meet the required strength, finish, and durability criteria.
Quality Assurance (QA) and Control:
Ensure that all work carried out on site is in full compliance with relevant quality standards, project specifications, and legal regulations. Conduct detailed inspections and assessments of work as it progresses, identifying and rectifying any non-conformance issues. Prepare and maintain comprehensive QA documentation, including test reports, materials certifications, and inspection records. Collaborate with the site team to carry out regular quality audits and implement corrective actions as required.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:
Ensure that all works are carried out in compliance with site-specific health, safety, and environmental regulations, particularly in relation to working on coastal and marine sites. Conduct regular safety checks, ensure the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and support the implementation of site safety inductions. Report any safety concerns or incidents promptly to ensure a safe working environment at all times.
Key Requirements:
Experience:
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience working as a Site Engineer on civil engineering projects, with a strong focus on reinforced concrete structures, both in-situ and precast. Previous experience on coastal, sea defence, or marine infrastructure projects would be highly advantageous.
Technical Skills:
Proven expertise in setting out, using modern surveying equipment such as Total Stations and GPS systems. Strong working knowledge of reinforced concrete design, formwork, reinforcement detailing, and associated construction processes.
Quality Assurance Expertise:
A solid understanding of quality assurance processes, including the ability to review and enforce the implementation of project specifications, drawings, and technical requirements. Experience in producing and reviewing inspection and test plans (ITPs), method statements, and risk assessments.
Qualifications:
A degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. Relevant qualifications such as CSCS card, SMSTS/SSSTS, First Aid, and any additional safety certifications are essential.
