Safeguarding team
£32,654 - £42,708
The SCP team in Middlesbrough is a crucial part of the local authority's child protection system, dedicated to safeguarding children at risk of harm. Their duties encompass a wide range of activities, from assessing referrals to providing support and intervention.
Duties :
- The SCP team receives referrals from various sources, including schools, hospitals, police, social workers, and concerned individuals.
- They conduct initial assessments to determine the level of risk to the child's safety and well-being. This includes gathering information, identifying potential vulnerabilities, and assessing the child's immediate needs.
- The team prioritises cases based on the level of risk, ensuring that children facing imminent danger receive immediate attention.
- When a referral indicates a significant risk of harm to a child, SCP social workers conduct thorough investigations. They collect evidence, interview the child and other relevant individuals, and assess the child's safety and well-being.
- They work with families and other agencies to develop Child Protection Plans when a child is deemed to be at risk of significant harm. These plans outline actions to protect the child and address the underlying concerns.
- The team conducts assessments, including child and family assessments, to understand the family's situation, identify the child's needs, and develop appropriate interventions.
- SCP social workers prepare court reports to provide evidence and recommendations to the court in cases where care proceedings are necessary.
- They attend court hearings to present their findings, provide evidence, and advocate for the child's best interests.
- They participate in child protection conferences, working with other agencies to make decisions about the child's safety and future care.
- SCP social workers actively participate in training and development opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge in child protection, safeguarding, and multi-agency working.
