I am currently working with several resource provisions across Wakefield who are seeking dedicated teachers who are able to provide specialised support for children and young people with visual and hearing impairments.
This is a chance to work with learners who require a tailored approach, addressing a variety of complex learning needs, including autism, SLD, sensory impairments, and SEMH, as well as challenges related to attachment difficulties.
Experience or qualifications in BSL, Makaton or other communication techniques would be advantageous.

The ideal Specialist Teacher will:
- Deliver structured lessons with the aim to enhance cognition and make learning more accessible through stretching and scaffolding techniques.
- Implement strategies to improve speech and language, particularly to those where English is an additional language.
- Collaborate with teaching assistants and other professionals to create a holistic and engaging learning experience for all learners.
- Contribute to a school culture that is committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of every student.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience delivering lessons to those with additional needs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine passion for working with children and a commitment to creating a positive and nurturing learning environment.
- A strong understanding of SEND and experience working with students who had VI or HI learning difficulties.
- A TeamTeach qualification (or willingness to attend free training with us).
- Proficient in BSL, Makaton or other communication techniques.
