I am currently working with several resource provisions across Wakefield that are seeking specialist Teaching Assistants who have experience working with learners who have visual and hearing impairments.

Experience or qualifications in BSL, Makaton or other communication techniques would be advantageous.

This is a fantastic opportunity to utilise your skills and expertise by supporting learners with complex learning needs such as autism, SLD, sensory impairments and SEMH, including challenges related to attachment difficulties.

The ideal Teaching Assistant will:

• Provide learning support to enhance cognition and make learning more accessible through stretching and scaffolding techniques.
• Offer individualised support to improve speech and language, particularly to those where English is an additional language.
• Collaborate with teachers and other professionals to create a holistic and engaging learning experience for all learners.
• Contribute to a school culture that is committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of every student.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A genuine passion for working with children and a commitment to creating a positive and nurturing learning environment.
• A strong understanding of SEND and experience working with students who had VI or HI learning difficulties.
• A TeamTeach qualification (or willingness to attend free training with us).
• Proficient in BSL, Makaton or other communication techniques.
