In the Queen’s recent speech, a new bill was announced to promise key changes for children’s services.

The bill has been introduced to ensure that children can be adopted by new families without delay and to improve the standard of social work and opportunities for young people in care in England. As part of the bill, local authorities will be required to publish the services and standards of treatment that care leavers are entitled to. Other changes include, but are not limited to:

  • An extension to the right of care leavers to receive support from a Personal Adviser up to the age of 25

  • A duty on local authorities and schools to promote educational achievement for children in long term care or who have been adopted

  • The introduction of a new regulator for social work

The way in which social workers are regulated is also likely to change as a new body will be set up to take responsibility for all social work standards, training and regulation of the profession. This new organisation will replace the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as the regulator for social work.

With professional standards changing and putting increasing demands on those who work within the care sector, it is no secret that this is unlikely to help with the staff shortages we are already experiencing. With this in mind, Randstad Care would like to continue supporting staff with their training and compliance needs to ensure our candidates are fully competent and up to date when it comes to regulations and guidelines. Providing first class care is our priority and we are ready to support your workforce to be the best they can be.
