manchester university community district nurses.

Deryn Fitzpatrick, Fulfilment Consultant

My grandma is currently suffering with leg ulcers and is on palliative care and is being looked after by the Manchester University community district nursing team.

The district nurses have been visiting my grandma for around 5 years now and I have had some of Randstad's district nurses such as Fran and Samson who have come to look after my grandma. It was great to see what they do first hand and the effort they go to every day for their patients.

They have been absolutely amazing. When they are with my grandma they make her feel part of the team and treat her with care like they are looking after their own grandparents. They even take the grandkids into the garden to play with them whilst they are on the visit.

Following a 4 week stay in hospital, my 96-year-old grandmother returned to the home she shared with my parents. She had been suffering from an infection which took its toll on and was given a “care package” which meant that carers from the Stroud, Gloucestershire Reablement Team made daily visits to attend to her personal needs.

As her condition deteriorated the Stroud community nursing team in partnership with doctors and staff from Frithwood Surgery provided medical care. This holistic approach meant that my grandmother's wish to stay at home was made possible. She died peacefully at home on March 30th 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

The whole family extends its gratitude to the NHS for the skills, professionalism and support they provided during this distressing and emotional time.
